A friend to many and loved by all who know him, Ernie Cooksey has recently found out he is suffering from a form of Cancer known as Malignant Melanoma.
When melanoma has spread around the body it is known as stage 4 or metastatic melanoma. Unfortunately stage 4 disease is notoriously difficult to treat.
At the Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Paul Lorigan (who has already treated Ernie and will be treating him again soon) and the Melanoma Team, are working very hard to develop treatments which will improve the outcome of patients with metastatic melanoma.
There are treatments and trials being carried out all over the world, and Ernie is obviously anxious to try whatever treatments there are available to him. Given that some of the treatments are across the world, there will be quite significant costs attached and that, coupled with the imminent arrival of Ernie and Louise’s first child, we want to help him however we can.
We have arranged a number of fundraising events which will centre around Ernie and will be a big push to raise part of the funds needed.
